"The improvements to my body are remarkable and are continuing and at last a sense of hope and positiveness in my life is beginning to emerge"
Catherine, Age 54, Personnel Manager, Donegal
-
For the past 12 years I have endured generalised pain/soreness/stiffness and awful tenderness of all my muscles. This in turn caused an extreme level of sleep disturbance to become the 'norm'. The related side-effects to all of this caused a huge change for the worst, in the quality of my life.
Over a long period of time a level of tolerance to this abnormal state of health was reached but despondency and low moral developed. Living with this constant level of pain/soreness/stiffness, I had no hope of resolution.
Then a friend introduced me to the Carton Clinic where I am currently undergoing a course of Treatments. The pain/soreness/stiffness is subsiding and I no long feel like a 'whole block of soreness' The pain is more specific now and relates only to when I do that which I have been advised not to do. This is getting far less as time goes on.
The approach adopted by the staff at the Clinic is very professional; very personal and gives me a feeling of being in safe hands. The complexity of skills used in the treatment sessions never ceases to amaze me. The improvements to my body are remarkable and are continuing and at last a sense of hope and positiveness in my life is beginning to emerge.

"I couldn't play golf without relying on Pain killers"
Jack, Age 64, Retired, Blackrock, Co. Dublin
-
For 6 months prior to me going to the Carton Clinic I had nagging pain in my left arm and hand. Sometimes I had pins and needles and tingling in my middle back. X-ray showed arthritis in my neck causing a trapped nerve and making it difficult to move my arm and use my hand without discomfort. I was taking anti-inflammatories and painkillers as prescribed by my doctor and had attended 12 sessions of Physiotherapy. The pain had improved some and there was still a lot of stiffness in the neck and shoulder. Moving my arm was still difficult and I was relying on painkillers to play golf.
I heard of the Carton Clinic through a family member. After the second treatment I was back playing golf without any pain; no need of painkillers.
That was 2006 and I am still doing great and playing golf.

"I was able see why I could have such discomfort for so long, and why relief from other things I tried, did not last"
Clare, Age 39, Office Manager, Birr, Co. Offaly
-
For 3 years I had suffered constant pain in between my shoulder blades. Because my work involved, at times a lot of computer work, I found it increasingly difficult to work at the PC without the pain getting worse. Over the last 6 months, before attending the Carton Clinic, it was taking me ages to fall asleep, finding it difficult to find a comfortable position in bed where I could go to sleep, and I found I was waking up during the night with it. It was when I found that it was actually affecting my time with the children; irritable from loosing sleep; feeling the tension the whole time and unable to hold my 2 year old for very long, that I knew I really had to do something other than taking pain killers anti-inflammatories and an occasional massage tease the tension.
When I attended the Carton Clinic, I was able see why I could have such discomfort for so long, why relief from other things I tried, did not last. Over after a number of treatments I started to find relief which, over time, was holding.
I am now free of pain and have gone back to playing tennis which I had to stop a number of years ago because of all the pain it would cause afterwards. I sleep through the night now, and am able to enjoy the children. More importantly I don't have to take medication and because I understand things better I know what I have to do to keep myself well.

"When the first treatment was finished I noticed a lot of relief and with the following treatments improvement continued. There is light at the end of the tunnel"
Sarah, Age 25, Teacher, Broadford, Co. Kildare
-
For the last 4 years I have suffered with regular bouts of severe sciatica, as diagnosed by my doctor, along the left buttock and down the left leg. Pain, ache, stiffness and fear that a severe 'attack' would come, was always there.
Being a teacher I have to be very active and the sciatica was hindering me from doing things I should have been doing at work. I never took time off work and sometimes I was living on pain killers and anti-inflammatories. The nerve pain was getting so bad that over time I had to give up all sports and dance. It was agony at times, difficult at best to even go for walk. Driving was also difficult during the bad periods of pain, but I had no choice.
I always saw myself as a positive person but this was getting me down as it was slowly changing my life.
Over time I have been for Physiotherapy, saw a Chiropractor, had MRI scans, was on pain killers prescribed by my doctor and saw a spiritual healer. There was no lasting relief or change to my condition. I was at the end of my tether.
My first visit to the Carton Clinic I was on crutches; unable to walk and experiencing severe pain which was already well dampened by the pain killers and anti-inflammatories I was taking. When the first treatment was finished I noticed a lot of relief and with the following treatments improvement continued. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
I am now getting back to normal, am walking pain-free and I am now learning how to stabilise and maintain this.

"...always explaining the 'why' of my aches and pains and the treatment itself in very understandable ways"
Ann, Age 72, Housewife, Maynooth, Co Kildare
-
For some years now I have had hip, neck pain and stiffness with recurring headaches on a regular basis.
Gardening had become difficult and getting in and out of the car presented a painful process as I found movement of my hips difficult and painful. I felt restricted in my daily routine (housework etc) because of the pain and stiffness.
I first attended the Carton Clinic in August 2005. Now... I feel completely recovered from the hip pain and stiffness, which got the first attention in the clinic. During the ongoing months the relief I experienced from the treatment to my ribcage, neck and shoulders was of great benefit to me in my daily routine and my headaches, except for the occasional tension headache, are non-existent.
In the overall, I am grateful for being able to avail of the facilities at the Clinic. For a number of years prior to going to the Carton Clinic I had attended in all 4 Physiotherapy clinics without any definite results.
I now attend the Carton Clinic on occasion for some maintenance treatment. The Physical Therapist is so professional and caring; and always explaining the 'why' of my aches and pains and the treatment itself in very understandable ways, that all I can say is that I look forward to my session.

"What the Carton Clinic gave me, was a real understanding of my injury"
Pauline, Age 55, Retired Personnel Officer, Maynooth, Co Kildare
-
Since childhood I've been actively involved in various sports, namely, athletics, basketball, tennis and squash. Over ten years ago (being less able to run after a ball!) I took up golf, which is now my main sporting activity. During the summer months I play on average three times a week and about once a week during the winter. I maintain a reasonable level of fitness by incorporating at least an hour's walk each day. I have no hesitation in saying the fact that I can carry out this level of activity is purely down to the therapy treatments I have undertaken at the Carton Clinic over the past 3 years.
I first attended the Clinic in November 2003 with a chronic pelvic problem, an old squash injury; which had caused me problems on and off over the previous ten years. By that time the problem had become so chronic that I had great difficulty turning in the bed. I could not bend to put on my clothes in the morning, needing to sit on the end of the bed to dress and put on my shoes. Normal daily household duties like hovering, cleaning, bed making became almost impossible. As for tending to the garden that was a definite "No-No".
Golf became impossible and because of the immobility in my lower back I was injuring my shoulders and arms as they were being asked to compensate for the lack of rotation in the lower body.
What the Carton Clinic gave me, was a real understanding of my injury. Because the injury had been with me for a long time I was holding my body in a very tense state, a natural reaction to the pain I was enduring. I underwent a number of treatments to help correct my alignment and learnt various techniques to 'release' and 'let go' the sub-conscious holding I was doing. These enabled the healing process to kick in and allow the lower back, neck, and shoulders to re-position and move comfortably.
Now with on-going maintenance and continuance checking at the Clinic I am pain free and thankfully back carrying out the activities I listed above (as well as the household chores!!!). And of course playing my golf and now winning occasionally.

"I am now climbing Ben Nevis, and it is thanks to you"
David, Age 49, Restaurateur, Knocklyon, Dublin
-
I have undergone a course of Physical Therapy at the Carton Clinic for the past 6 weeks now as I play a lot of sport and had various problems over the years ranging from a badly strained calf to tennis elbow. I am now back playing Soccer and Weight Training and all the injuries are effectively sorted thanks to the treatment.
I have never undergone such an intensive course of treatment in my life and feel all the better for it. Although physically demanding, the treatment I feel has made a new man out of me, allowing my muscles to repair properly and hopefully be able to avoid any strains in the future.
I cannot compliment the Physical Therapist enough on her work, advice and the Physical Therapy approach. Over the years I have attended many physiotherapists, sport therapists and other therapists, leaving me frustrated with things. My experience with Physical Therapy at the Carton Clinic cannot compare to what I have had in the past.

"My life has been transformed"
Breda, Age 56, Kilkenny
-
Just over a year ago I became aware of the existence of the Carton Clinic. I attended then for my first treatment and since that time my life has been transformed.
I am a fairly active mother, with my own business which requires a lot of lifting. My general health, thank God, has always been good, but I have to say I found the menopause to be 'hard going' for a few years and since then developed high levels of cholesterol.
Prior to 2004 I would have, like everyone else, experienced the usual neck and shoulder discomfort and stiffness. Around 2004 my shoulder pain / stiffness increased and a constant intense burning in my middle and upper back developed.
For the next 2 years I underwent a whole gamut of orthopaedic tests and scans to try and identify the cause of my back pain. I eventually attended the Pain Clinic to manage and treat the pain itself. I was on the verge of having a Spinal Cord Stimulation installed in my back, a device implanted in my back to treat my chronic pain, when I began to fully realise the importance of the fact that, as yet, nobody had managed to identify the cause of my back-pain.
At the very first session the Physical Therapist in the Carton Clinic identified the underlying cause of my back problem. With her help I even dredged from my memory the details of an accident in my childhood, long forgotten, which pin-pointed the likely origin of my condition. The effect of the unresolved injury on my body over time and all the other strains over the years was explained clearly. It all made sense.
The Physical Therapist started working on the tissues which would create the changes in my structure and on the life style changes I needed to make to assist recovery.
The improvement in my quality of life is just wonderful. I am now visiting my Physical Therapist for occasional appointments because she keeps me on track.
Sometimes I think back to the bad-old-days when 'experts' told me that there was no identifiable physical cause of my pain problem. They often mentioned stress as a possible cause and in my distress I had accepted their reasoning. Well I now realise that it was my pain which created the awful stress in my life and I am fortunate it has been brought under control.

"I just put it down to getting older"
Mary, Age 62, Office worker, Blackrock, Co Dublin
-
Over the last 2/3 years I was gradually getting stiffer. Things had accelerated over the last 6 months to lower back flares and leg pain. It was also difficult to turn in the bed and bend down to pick things up. Getting up from sitting and kneeling was difficult and I was very stiff in the mornings. Over that time I had attended my GP who had prescribed anti-inflammatories and had also attended Physiotherapy. I just put it down to getting older and didn't think there was a remedy for my condition.
I had heard about the Carton Clinic through a family member and the success she had. I made an appointment more in hope than anything else and to my delight after the first treatment I could turn in the bed for the first time in years.
The improvement continued from that. I can now move freely, and I take my walks every day.
My treatment in the Carton Clinic could not be bettered; it is professional, friendly and caring and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.
